Real User Field Analysis
The Katadyn BeFree 1.0L gained a passionate following among thru-hikers and ultramarathoners because it solves the most physically taxing part of trail hydration: slow flow rate. Squeezing water through dense older filters can feel like squeezing toothpaste through a needle.
Shake-To-Clean Simplicity
With the BeFree, water pours through at up to 2 liters per minute. Furthermore, when sediment slows the membrane down, you don’t need to carry a bulky plastic medical syringe into the backcountry. Simply swish the filter in the stream or shake the filled flask for 5 seconds to dislodge silt and immediately restore full flow rate.
